The Seasons

Gardens don't behave like furniture in a house. You can't simply place them wherever you want and expect them to serve your ideas. In a garden, you enter an unfamiliar world with it's own values and hierarchies —and so many mouths to feed.

 

When I first began gardening, I drew a line in the dirt, borrowing from the Hippocratic oath: First, do no harm. From there, my philosophy grew: observe before acting, work with who and what is already here, and to accept that I am not in charge.
