Owl Haven

Somewhere between the seasons

Gaithersburg, MD

When I found my home, I was between two great losses, but didn't know it yet. Built the year my birthplace achieved statehood (1912), it had this indescribable quality of holding me safely just outside of time and in its own space. It gave me room to grieve, but also to hold unimaginable joy —my newborn grandson came home to Owl Haven that first fall and our granddaughter followed three short summers later. We were welcomed into a generous community of neighbors who became friends, and somehow I feel the love of those I've lost among them and inside these old rooms.
